Ron Schwartz has lived in Deerfield since 1988. He is an employment law lawyer who has been practicing law for almost 30 years. Ron is an incumbent trustee. His legal expertise assists in providing oversight of the township’s legal responsibilities to maintain township roads and protect the township’s funds.
Ron is an active member of the community. He worked with the Village of Deerfield’s “walkability” committee because of his interest in pedestrian safety and to encourage residents to walk. Ron served on a special task force of District 109 that explored ways to introduce languages other than English to students before middle school. He is proud of the fact that District 109 started a program for these students this year that brings Spanish language and culture instruction regularly into the classroom. He is a member of Kol Hadash Humanistic Congregation. He serves on a volunteer basis as a legal advisor to Kol Hadash on employment law matters.
Ron is running for a second term as a Trustee of West Deerfield Township. As one of the township’s board members, he is well qualified to continue setting the policy direction of the township. Ron is proud of the fact that the township has been able to broaden its services over the past four years and still balance its budget each year. He is a strong supporter of “Going Places,” a transportation service for West Deerfield Township residents who have mobility challenges that may prevent or restrict their ability to meet their health care needs. He supports the township’s focus on meeting the transportation needs of seniors. Ron spearheaded the redesign of the township’s website. The website now fully communicates the range of services provided by the township.
Ron’s employment law practice includes representing whistleblowers. In February, the staff of the Illinois Speaker of the House, invited Ron to testify about the Whistleblower Act before the Joint Committee on Government Reform. This panel is composed of the Democratic and Republican leadership of the Illinois Senate and House, including Sen. Susan Garrett. Others who have testified include Attorney General Lisa Madigan and novelist Scott Turow.
Ron is married. His two daughters attend Caruso Middle School and Wilmot Elementary School.
