Ron Levitsky recently retired as an educator, after teaching middle school social studies for twenty-seven years at Sunset Ridge School in Northfield. Previously, he had taught in Evanston, Lincolnwood, and the Dominican Republic. He is a recipient of the Kohl Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Aharonian Award from the Genocide Education Project, and the Edward J. Lewis II Award from the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Chicago. Ron also served on the adjunct faculty of North Park University and has been a consultant for Brown University’s Choices Project for the 21st Century.

In addition to his work as an educator, for the past twelve years, Ron has helped his wife Sonia run Meadowview Stables in Mettawa, which is leased from the Lake County Forest Preserve District.

Ron and Sonia have been married for thirty-seven years. They have two adult daughters and live in Lake Forest with their three German shorthair pointers.

Besides being a West Deerfield Township Trustee, Ron has a variety of interests. He serves on the Executive Board of the National Social Studies Supervisors Association. He is Communications Chair of the Lake Forest Caucus, having served a term as a Caucus member from the Fourth Ward. Through the Highland Park Senior Center, he is a member of the Senior TV Producers and hosts his own monthly talk show, “What’s This Show F.O.R. (Friends of Ron).”

Ron also works on genocide education projects with the Genocide Education Network of Illinois (GENI) and the Pontian Greek Society of Chicago to spread awareness among educators of the Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian genocides committed by the Ottoman Empire during and after World War I. He is the author of a curriculum unit that deals with the Pontian Greek Genocide.

Ron also enjoys reading and writing. He has authored numerous articles on educational issues and has published mystery novels and short stories. A recent short story was anthologized in Chicago Blues.

Ron believes that his skills as a businessman and educator have helped him to serve the township well. Like other members of the township board, he is fiscally responsible, realizing that, like a business, the township must maintain a balanced budget and provide cost-effective services to its residents.
